There are many organizations around the world that work together to stop bullying but there is one in particular that reigns over them all. stopbullying.gov is a resourceful website full of multiple links, articles and ways to prevent bullying. The $150 million will be used to give the site some much needed updates and will also be used to organize activities for victims of bully's and the bully's themselves, hopefully allowing the newly hired counselors to dig deeper as to why they bully.
stopbullying.gov is a website that directly coordinates with the Federal Partners in Bullying Prevention Steering Committee, which is an effort directly led by the Dept. of Education. Both federal partners include representatives from the U.S. Dept's of Agriculture, Defense, Education, Health and Human Services and more. All of these help provide resources to the website and also help bring attention to what is necessary for the website. stopbullying.gov has achieved many success's in the short time it has been around. It has helped numerous teenager's and children in finding a voice in not only stopping the bullying but also preventing it from happening to others.
Bullying plays a large role in today's society. With the adoption of more technology kids become more and more obsessive over their perceived social-media status. If you are not deemed "cool" online then you will be ridiculed. Unlike the age before the internet, in which kids were expected to just start swinging their fists at a bully if worse comes to worse, that can't really happen online. These children don't necessarily understand that online, you can just quite literally, walk away from the computer/phone. Furthermore, it is unfortunate because when they lose that social status of "being cool" they believe that do not belong anymore. Every group has their own determinations of "cool" and just because you don't fit in with one certain clique doesn't mean the people who really care about you don't think you're "cool". It all varies from group to group.
With the $150 million primarily going to funding a salary of highly trained and well experienced counselors for stopbullying.gov and all their associates, part of the money would go to victims bullying and also would go to organizing group activities for bully victims. Some of these victims feel as if they are not wanted and including them in these activities will not only help their self-esteem but also their willingness to work with others and open up. One of the members that will play a key role in helping hand pick the counselors is First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, a strong supporter of any and all anti-bullying programs.
After receiving the grant of $150 million we plan to begin the long and tedious process of sorting through applications for counselors. All the while we will immediately begin to organize events like group sports, carnivals, and more. Finally, stopbullying.gov as a group will pick a handful of family's to help financially who have had/or do currently have children who are victims of bullying. We want to make people aware of the hurt they do to people when they bully others. That is why we will also be putting up motivational posters and posters that will encourage anyone to report anything if they see anything. Our organization wants only the TOP notch counselors for our group and because we will be picking the top 1% of our applicants we will be giving a large salary of $100,000 per year, benefits included, to our counselors. Only 5 counselors will be picked while the large majority of the money will be used to rent out amusement parks, to organize sports at the local park, and also creating motivational items to put around schools and parks.

“The bully’s no longer have that face to face interaction in which they can see that they are hurting someone else’s feelings.”. With bully’s no longer having to face the consequences of their actions, they feel free to do whatever they please. A computer screen and a keyboard are their tools now, rather than the clichรจ fists and words. The anonymity on the internet disconnects a person from reality and allows them to feel like they are free to say whatever they want. In reality, there are human beings behind those screens who have feelings just like the rest of us, and in some cases you may hurt those feelings too much. A young person is not aware that they may just “walk away” from the social media when they are being bullied, social media is a part of almost every young person’s. It’s almost a life line to staying connected and updated with what’s going on. With bully’s no longer realizing there are consequences to their actions they feel as if they aren’t hurting anyone when they really are.

Blogger #4: Proposal Outline

Due: Friday, Oct. 9th

The Scenario:

You are each representative/activists for your specific social issue.  We are attending the yearly U.N assembly and we are told that there is a $150 million fund available.  The U.N assembly agrees that proposals/presentations will be made for the money and the collective majority vote will decide on how the money is allocated.

Using the template provided below, create a rough draft proposal.  You do not have to answer all of the questions included in each section, but attempt to fill out as much as possible so that you have a starting point for your presentation.

Proposal Components & Details
  1. Summary
    1. The Proposal Summary should be about one paragraph of 1-3 sentences and should include the amount of funding requested and give the most general description of the use that will be made of the funds.
  2. Organization or Representative Description & History
    1. The Organization Description and History section should be about 1-4 pages in length and should include the history of the organization, its structure, information about office locations that will be involved in carrying out the activities that will be funded by the requested grant, major accomplishments of the organization, relevant experience and accomplishments of the organization, established partnerships and relationships that will be important to carrying out the activities funded by the grant, information about prior grants received from the source to which the proposal will be sent, and an explanation of how the description you provide makes your organization an appropriate grantee
  3. Social Issue Background
    1. The Background section, of 2-5 pages in length, should provide the reader with an explanation of the problem that has created the need for the program that will be funded by the requested grant. It should provide evidence that the problem exists as well as that the proposed project will contribute to a solution to the problem or will reduce the harmful impact of the problem. It should highlight media and government publications suggesting that the problem is a high priority and that the proposed solution is one that decision-makers support and believe in. It is important that the reader who finishes this section know why your program should be funded over others.
  4. Project Description
    1. The Project Description may vary widely in length depending on the size and scope of the program that will be funded and the size of the award being sought. The project description should give the reader a detailed description of the program that will be funded by the requested grant. This description should explain the duration of time during which the funds will support the project, the goals of the project, how they will be achieved, how success or failure will be measured, what services you promise to deliver to what population and what results you expect to bring about. A useful structure is to break the project down into component goals. Use each goal as its own heading and under each goal heading, list and describe the activities that will be funded to achieve that goal and how achievement of that goal will be measured or defined. The Project Description may also include information about the staff who will work on the project, their experience and qualifications to perform the activities that will be funded
  5. Project Timeline
    1. Using your Project Description, provide the reader with a timeline that shows the chronological order in which the activities listed under each goal heading will be undertaken and/or completed. Also include information about how/when funds that are awarded will be spent to support each activity
  6. Budget
    1. Provide the reader with a table with categories of expenditures that will be funded by the requested grant, how much funding will be required for each category, and how much of that funding will come from the grant request.

 Police Brutality in the U.S

Throughout the United States we deal with dozens of social problems. One that has really caught my attention is the rise of police brutality throughout the United States. A movie that can relate to this topic is “Fruitvale Station”. Fruitvale is an American drama film that was released in 2013. In this film an innocent man was severely shot dead by an Oakland police officer. The man was already arrested and handcuffed when he was severely shot in the back. Also the murders of Treyvon Martin, Mike Brown are all questionable deaths by police brutality. I chose this topic because I’m majoring in criminal justice and my goal is to become a Police Officer. I want to be a police officer that helps our society not worsens it. I want to help convict and detain criminal’s not innocent civilians. Many of these officers arrest civilians because of race. Many officers need to quit discriminating and do their job which is keeping our environment safe.

Birth control has been a big controversial subject for years in the United States. Many people believe that the government should not be paying for the birth control for the women that request it. Other people believe the government should. The article was able to find online talks about how some insurance companies are still making women pay for birth control even though they may be able to get it for free due to the Obamacare bill.
I chose this article because it is a controversial subject to everyone. Many people agree and others don't agree with taking birth control. This article made me realize that women should be able to receive free birth control because if men are able to get free condoms, why shouldn't women be provided with free birth control?

People in general tend to create different types of stereotypes and discrimination,

they group people based on someone's body type, race, gender, etc. and one of them is

age. A prejudice against a certain age group and especially the elderly is call Ageism.

What makes the topic of ageism interesting for me is that, I am fully aware that such

discrimination exists, but I know so little about it nonetheless. I wanted to learn more about

ageism because I realized that this is the field of discrimination where, one day if I am lucky

to get old, is going to come and affect me. Ageism is similar to the other kinds of

discrimination, people who are being discriminated because of their age are being unfairly

denied access to benefits. We often forget that seniors are not just consumers of our

resources, but they also pay taxes, work and do volunteer tasks just like the rest of us.

However, There is a law against ageism. It is The Age Discrimination in Employment

act of 1967. It simply states that, an employer should not fail or refuse to hire and be

deprived of privileges based on an individual's age. Unfortunately, some employers think

that aging results to loss of ability. As a result, they fire older employees and just deny the

fact that they were being fired because of their age.

Older people should be treated with respect. They also contributors to our society.

The unique thing about ageism is that, it is a state that we are all going to arrive at. We also

have to remember that, experience never gets old.

Spousal Abuse is a rising issue today in the United States. Spousal Abuse affects individuals of all social classes and gender and both males and females are victims of spousal abuse. Abuse of men is not a topic commonly known or discussed in our society as easily as abuse of females for various reasons. However it is a topic that needs to be examined so men who are being abused know they are not alone and society treats it as problem and not overlook it. Bedsides the individuals directly involved it also affects children, other family members and friends that surround them. More than five million people are battered every year alone in the United State. It is estimated each year violence occurs in sixteen percent of all relationships. Both American and Canadian wives have reported to be more likely to physically assault by their husbands. Domestic dispute Six percent of spousal abuse is severe involving some of the following: kicking, biting, beating and attacks with a gun or a knife. Spousal Abuse is abuse of spouse or partner in a relationship in which the two people are dating, married or living together; abuse may be physical, mental or emotional or sexual. I watch this movie and saw how a man abuses his wife and what came into my mind that nobody serve to my treated that way. The government and the organization are working hand in hand to stop this evil act called spousal abuse.
