Bullying is a large issue with the rise of social media. It is more common to hear about a person being ridiculed online than it is to hear about it happening in person. The bully's no longer have that face to face interaction in which they can see that they are hurting someone's feeling. Instead they type something from behind a computer screen and don't realize the consequences of their actions. As is the case with a young 12 year old girl by the name of Rebecca Ann Sedwick whom committed suicide two years ago this month. Rebecca was harassed and quite literally pushed to kill herself by two of her own classmates. The two girls who have not been identified are merely 12 and 14 years old and when confronted about Rebecca dying, one of the girls simply stated "..I don't care.". It's an incredibly sad thing to realize someone so young took their own life simply because of social media. Bullying and social media have become big contentions for news media. They try to connect the two together some way whenever one of these stories comes up and they shine a poor light on social media. Hopefully within the near future we can start providing even more help to those whom are bullied online, much like we provide help to those are bullied in person.
